ADESUA COMMENDS BANKY W’S OPEN LETTER TO ‘STALKER’

Adesua Etomi, the wife of Banky W has praised her husband’s open letter to the social media stalker, who expressed shock that he was driving a 2008 car.
In a tweet, Adesua wrote; “Trust my husband to make lemonade out of Lemons. This isn’t a response to the ignorance. This is a write up of life lessons. Beautifully written baby,” while quoting his tweet.
A video had been shared recently on social media showing Banky W’s 2008 Benz at a grocery store, with the recorder of the video commenting that the car was not befitting of his status as a celebrity.
Banky W has since shared an open letter, which has gone viral.

Boko Haram kills six traders in Borno ambush

Boko Haram fighters killed six traders when they ambushed a convoy of lorries under military escort in northeast Nigeria, a civilian militia member and a local resident said on Thursday.
“Six traders were killed in an ambush by Boko Haram gunmen on Tuesday,” said Umar Kachalla, from the volunteer security force in Gamboru, a trading hub on Nigeria’s border with Cameroon.
The attack happened at about 6:00 pm (1700 GMT) at Mussini village, some 16 kilometres (10 miles) from Gamboru.
Kachalla said the gunmen opened fire on the 23-strong convoy, forcing it to stop, then looted supplies and torched the vehicles.
“The poor state of the road makes it difficult for motorists to escape any ambush because they need to manoeuvre through deep and gaping potholes,” he added.
Abubakar Yusuf, from Gamboru, passed the scene on Thursday morning. “I can see the trucks lined up. They are all burnt. Nothing remains but heaps of ash from the goods,” he said.
“It is true. Six people were killed in the ambush, including five men and one woman. Attacks against traders have become frequent despite the military escorts.”
AFP asked for confirmation and comment from Nigerian Army spokesman Brigadier General Texas Chukwu. In a text message, he said only: “Is not true.”
Further questions about whether he meant the attack itself or the numbers involved went unanswered.
Nigeria’s government and military maintains that Boko Haram, whose insurgency has killed at least 20,000 people since 2009, is a spent force and on the verge of defeat.
It is now encouraging thousands of people displaced by the conflict to return to their homes from makeshift camps in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.
But international aid agencies working in the remote region say conditions are not right for mass returns, particularly in terms of security.
Despite claims of free movement, civilian vehicles still require military escorts on roads into and out of Maiduguri because of fears of Boko Haram attacks.
Last weekend, jihadists ambushed troops in the Bama area of Borno and separately overran a military base in neighbouring Yobe.
But the military rejected reports that dozens of troops were killed and told local people “their safety is guaranteed”, despite repeated attacks, raids and suicide bombings.
In June, 43 people, including the recently returned displaced, were killed in a wave of suicide attacks in the town of Damboa.

Woman dragged as bike-borne duo attempt to snatch cash

TRICHY: A 42-year-old woman fought back two robbers bravely and saved her hard-earned money from their grip, despite being dragged on the road by the offenders. Police have launched an investigation to nab the suspects.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon when the victim S Krishnaveni, 42, was returning after withdrawing Rs1 lakh cash from a nationalised bank in Thuraiyur town. Two unidentified men followed her on a bike, as she was walking on the road carrying the cash in a cloth bag. Within minutes, the duo came close to her and the pillion rider grabbed her bag and attempted to snatch it from her.

Krishnaveni, however, showed stiff resistance and firmly held on to the cash bag. When the snatcher used more force to snatch the bag, she fell on the road. Yet the miscreants kept the vehicle moving in full throttle, dragging the victim for a few metres. Even after suffering injuries on her face and hands, the woman did not let go of the bag. Realising that their efforts were futile, the snatchers fled the scene leaving the woman behind.

She returned home and then received treatment at a hospital for her injuries. On Tuesday, she went to a finance company on the stretch where the incident happened. They helped her with the CCTV footage of her being dragged on the road. After circulating the video on WhatsApp, Krishnaveni lodged a complaint with the Thuraiyur police on Tuesday afternoon. A sub-inspector investigating the case said that the woman said that no money was taken from her. Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the accused based on the video clip.
