Woman dragged as bike-borne duo attempt to snatch cash

TRICHY: A 42-year-old woman fought back two robbers bravely and saved her hard-earned money from their grip, despite being dragged on the road by the offenders. Police have launched an investigation to nab the suspects.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon when the victim S Krishnaveni, 42, was returning after withdrawing Rs1 lakh cash from a nationalised bank in Thuraiyur town. Two unidentified men followed her on a bike, as she was walking on the road carrying the cash in a cloth bag. Within minutes, the duo came close to her and the pillion rider grabbed her bag and attempted to snatch it from her.

Krishnaveni, however, showed stiff resistance and firmly held on to the cash bag. When the snatcher used more force to snatch the bag, she fell on the road. Yet the miscreants kept the vehicle moving in full throttle, dragging the victim for a few metres. Even after suffering injuries on her face and hands, the woman did not let go of the bag. Realising that their efforts were futile, the snatchers fled the scene leaving the woman behind.

She returned home and then received treatment at a hospital for her injuries. On Tuesday, she went to a finance company on the stretch where the incident happened. They helped her with the CCTV footage of her being dragged on the road. After circulating the video on WhatsApp, Krishnaveni lodged a complaint with the Thuraiyur police on Tuesday afternoon. A sub-inspector investigating the case said that the woman said that no money was taken from her. Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the accused based on the video clip.
