Benue State Ministry of Health Takes Over Suspected Case of Monkey Pox in Gboko
A team of experts from the Benue State Ministry of Health arrived Gboko today in respect of the suspected case of Monkey Pox on a resident, Wuese Aloor.
The victim who is believed to have been infected two weeks ago is said to have started experiencing symptoms of the disease after meeting a male friend simply identified as John, who is a driver based in Onitsha.
As at the time of writing this report, the pox has sealed the lips of the victim making it difficult for her to eat or communicate effectively.
Speaking to newsmen during the exercise, the executive chairman, Gboko Local Government Council Hon. Mrs Beckie Orpin stated that the council cried out to the ministry of health after receiving reports of the case who have sent out professioners to help the victim.
"For now we still consider it a suspected case. We call on the media and other relevant agencies to help in the sensitization of the people."
The chairman called on the people of the area to keep their environments clean and commended the state government for their prompt response to the cry of the people of the area.
Health experts said they will collect samples of the victim to a laboratory in Lagos for screening while she remains in good care at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi.
Monkey Pox is said to be transmitted through body contact with an infected person, fluids of the pox or sexual intercourse with an infected person.
